It follows in the footsteps of the impressive first-generation MCA 525, with meaningful improvements. It's been completely redesigned, with shorter internal cabling that creates a smoother circuit pathway. Usually power amps like this one are paired with A/V preamp/processors. Anthem's MRX Series home theater receivers have preamp outputs, so you can easily connect the MCA 525 Gen 2 and use it to drive your front left, right, and center channels, plus two back speakers or surrounds. That surge of added power does wonders for music and movie soundtracks. The MCA 525 Gen 2's rated power output provides a clue to this amp's unshakeable grip on the music. It produces 225 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 400 watts into 4 ohms and an incredible 600 watts into 2 ohms! There are two beefy toroidal transformers inside to ensure stable, noise-free performance. The MCA 525 Gen 2 is one of three amplifiers that Anthem has introduced to complement the new AVM 70 & AVM 90 AV processors as well as the new MRX 1140, 740 & 540 home theatre receivers. The 525 is a five channel amplifier and there is a 225 stereo and a 325 three channel model available as well. Mixing and matching these amplifiers with an Anthem AV processor or receiver will allow you to build up as many channels as you need to drive your speaker array. Compared to the originals, these new MCA amplifiers feature more robust and efficient power and heavy-duty reliability while delivering lower THD (total harmonic distortion) for clean, pure sound and lower noise for a supremely quiet background. While most 5-channel amplifiers use a single power supply for front left and right channels and another power supply of the centre and surround, the new MCA 525 GEN 2 shares its two power supplies between all channels.
