A pre filter is an integral part of Clean Air air purifier range. It is the first stage of filtration, and it essentially helps to capture large particles like pet hair, pollen and dust.
HEPA Filter: Removes viruses and bacteria above 0.3 micron size
HEPA filtration technology was developed by the US Atomic Energy Commission to filter out radioactive “dust” and materials from the air. HEPA, High Efficiency Particulate Air, filters are those that cause air to pass through a specially-designed structure. These HEPA filters are designed to remove 99.97% of all pollutants that are 0.3 microns or larger. For reference, 1 micron is approximately 1/100th the width of a human hair!
Activated Carbon Filter: Removes any foul and chemical smells

The reason why UV lights on air purifiers are so effective against micro organisms and pathogens is that, ultraviolet light exposure damages their DNA and RNA structure, so reproduction cannot occur.
